Alabama Inmate Population is a private reference site, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, schedule visitation, send money, retrieve certified records, or change an official roster.
Route by Problem Type
Alabama does not have one statewide jail office for every inmate question. A person arrested today may appear first in a county jail roster or municipal holding record. A person sentenced to state prison should be searched through ADOC. Federal and immigration custody use separate national systems, and court dates or charge outcomes belong with the Alabama court record.
- Recent county arrest or pretrial custody: start with the County Directory and the sheriff or jail for the county where the person was booked or is being held.
- Sentenced Alabama state prisoner: use the ADOC inmate locator for current ADOC custody records.
- Non-online ADOC records: use the ADOC Form 023-A public-records request form and the public-records coordinator rules in ADOC Administrative Regulation 023.
- Formal charges, court dates, dispositions, or fines: use Alacourt ACCESS / Just One Look and the circuit clerk for the county court case.
- Federal prison custody: use the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator.
- Immigration detention: use ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
- Victim notification: use the Alabama Victim Notification System or Alabama VINELink. Pretrial case questions should still be routed to the sheriff in the county where the crime occurred.
Records This Site Cannot Provide
Do not send time-sensitive custody, bond, visitation, release, medical, safety, or legal questions expecting an official answer from this website. Official agencies control the underlying records and can change a status before a public page updates. Jail roster charges may also differ from filed court charges, so bond and case decisions should be confirmed with the jail, court, clerk, or attorney handling the matter.
For juvenile, Youthful Offender, sealed, expunged, medical, PREA-sensitive, or investigative records, public access may be limited or unavailable. Those questions must go to the official custodian or a licensed attorney.
Site Messages
Messages about broken links, unclear page text, or general site operation may be sent through the website's ordinary contact channel when available. Do not include Social Security numbers, driver's-license numbers, financial details, medical facts, sealed-record information, juvenile details, or other sensitive personal information in a general message.
